Yes all softeners can use either/both sodium chloride or potassium chloride 'salt'. In some cases you will have to increase the salt dose though. Like with heavy iron. Sodium in softened water is not the problem that many people think it is. For each gpg of hardness removed, 7.85 mg/l of sodium is added. People not on a sodium restricted diet shouldn't have a problem with that amount of daily sodium and those on the diet already know how to count their sodium uptake so they will include that sodium in their daily amount if they are drinking and/or cooking with softened water.
