Eileen, humming in pipes are usually caused by cavitation. This cavitation is caused by a partial obstruction in the fill line. Make sure all turnoff valves are fully opened as partially closed valves can cause this, also bad shutoff valve washers can also cause this problem. Might take some detective work.
