When I went to replace the light switch because the chain had broken off inside the switch, I notice that the wiring to the lights themslves had become so hot, and the insulation so brittle that there were bare wires 3/4 " up from the bulb fixture. An extreme fire hazard. Only 60 watt ceiling fan bulbs were ever used in the fan.
