NOTHING is as bad as bamboo! have been fighting it for several years because a large stand grew up between my house & neighbors. It is a grass so Round-up does work but takes a couple of applications. I spray -or often "paint" the new shoots. In a few days to a week they will get soft and mushy and can just be pulled off at ground. Then I spray or paint the root area. Whenever I see one of the roots I cut it and paint both ends thickly with roundup also. The big stalks (already open and 6ft or higher) I cut a couple of feet above the ground and then paint or spray with Roundup so remaining stalk will go mushy. If you just cut the bamboo down the stumps are dangerous--hard and sharp and last forever. (Did you know that in Tiawan the scaffolds for huge skyscrapers are made from bamboo? It's that sturdy) Someone told me that if you cut down a "mother" plant or one of the huge rhizome ones,it can be worse because it spawns all these new plants. Good luck. I'm winning my war, but slowly. (Would help if neighbor didn't enjoy the greenery and helped!)
