underlying strucuture

In reply to leveling sunken/settled wood floors by Ted Harris (nanjozy) on June 1st, 2004 09:45 AM [Go to top of thread]

You need to investigate the structure under the floor to determine why it has dropped five-inches. This is not merely a floor deflection or minor settling, it is a loss of underlying support indicating possible floor rot or termite damage. Fix the underlying cause before making superficial repairs. Post back with what is visible from under the floor and if there is wall damage in the corner. If necessary, remove the floor surface and subfloor to view the condition of joists, sill plates and foundation on this corner.
