In MarkMiddione note on Failure to spin due to Electronic failure he mentioned a transistor failing. I found the device to be a TRIAC.

TO-92 is a case style not a transistor type. The original defective part was MAC97A6 which crosses to a NTE5656 TRIAC $1.83. Unicorn Electronics Johnson City, NY
