Invasive Running Type bamboo can be removed best by digging. The roots are shallow and if you can access your area with a small backhoe that you can rent from a tool rental facility. (Usually here in Calif for about $300.00 a day) you can make short work of the roots. Then by knocking down any sprouts as soon as they appear. You can win the battle. I personally like a well-groomed grove of the stuff. (Just personal preference) If you like bamboo try clumping types. they dont get out of control and still look great. only spreds a couple of inches a year.
Good luck to all
