Ceramic floor tile base

Posted by Lord EDC on June 8th, 2004 09:27 AM

I am currently getting a bathroom remodeled. The ceramic tile is laid with thinset on top of three layers of 3/4" plywood. The previous tile floor we removed was a wiremesh-cement base of about 1-1/2" or so. Looking at other sources, there is this thing called backerboard for tiling.

Should I approach the tiler and GC regarding this? Or is there no real issue here?

I appreciate any comments.
