Bart, reinforcing mesh is adequate for a common patio. I do think you should resolve how they will layout construction joints beforehand. With this size patio you will need to be able control where it cracks. The mesh will hold the sections aligned, but not prevent cracks. Discuss this with the contractor, or we will see you back here next year frustrated with your contractor.
