Mesh and rebar are different. rebars are steel bars, like 3/8 inch dia. and larger. The mesh is heavy gauge steel wire welded into a 6" x 6" grid.
Since this work is probably going to occur in hot weather this summer, also ask the contractor about the curing procedures he will use. Spray-on compounds, moist spray, poly sheets, etc. I used to think this was no-brainer stuff, but there seem to be alot of comments on this board that sound like cracking could have been avoided by not letting the concrete dry out before it cures.
