I am in the process of repainting kitchen cabinets that were painted 10 years ago with an oil based paint. I have sanded the cabinets to remove the "gloss". I have started to prime with a water based primer. I was assured this would adhere to the old oil based paint, however that is not the question. My primer and top coat are both white and I'm covering a darker color. Is there an issue with putting on two coats of primer and a single top coat rather than a single primer coat and two top coat layers. My top coat is again oil based and the primer being water based is much easier to work with. What is the wisdom out there?
