sick weeping willow

I toohave a weeping willow that I planted (myself) 10-11 years ago. Tis yer it looks ery skimpy. I was told to have the top cut to make it grow fuller but then the same guy said it is a gonner and should be removed. I love this tree. I am just learning that the weeping willow doesn't live very long. Is 10 yers the life span or dcan I do something to save it. I don;t see any bugs on it or brown spots. Its just very sparse and poor looking. What is the best thing to do now.
