I think you would be more satisfied with two top-coats applied thinly, that two primer and one topcoat. Most likely, the topcoat has a different gloss than the primer. Also, the topcoat is a more protective wear layer. Use the primer as a tack-coat and stain block or hiding coat as intended, and use the top coat for gloss and wear. Are you spraying?
