The incompatibility of finishes has been overcome by paint manufacturers for certain applications. It helps if you are working with a good paint dealership. What brand paints are you using?
Acrylic latex is more flexible than oil paint. In environments with wide temperature shifts (outdoors), it is generally not a good idea to put oil over latex as movement in the latex layer can cause delamination. A lot of people generalize that rule and simply don't do it anywhere. You can easily test your primer and finish coat, but applying the finish coat to a small area of primed wood. After it dries, if it can be easily scraped off with a fingernail, and it separates at the primer, you have an incompatible primer and topcoat. Do not proceed, change to a 100% acrylic top-coat.
