We had a chimney sweep come out to clean our fireplace chimney. They indicated that some repair would be needed on the inside of the chimney. Although the house was built in 88 (not 1888), they said the bricks were not perfectly aligned so they had ledges which would catch smoke and over time cause a chimney fire. We have done nothing for 7 years and have had no issues. We burn only hardwood and wax logs. If I do nothing, is it the end of the world as we know it?
