When I read about the "amazing" new Neptune that was going to get my clothes cleaner and save water an energy, I talked my wife into getting one. We had a 25-year-old Kenmore washer that was still doing a great job and I really had to argue with my wife to get rid of it.

Needless to say, she is now letting me know that she opposed the Neptune. Ours is five years old. Has never performed as well as the 25-year-old Kenmore. Last year Maytag made the mistake of sending me a questionnaire. I asked whether they would take the Neptune back and give me my 25-year-old Kenmore. They offered the PHA kit "repair" which, judging from the size of the parts and the time involved, would have been a costly repair.

Sad thing is, the machine didn't work any better afterwards. Now, less than a year later, the extractor isn't working which means that the clothes have to be wrung by hand before putting into the dryer (pretty good for a $1,000 machine) and, in researching my problem, found out that the door latch hasn't been working either.

I have been on the phone every day to Maytag for the past week. They must be getting sick of me, because they say they will pay for the parts. BUT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE LABOR. If (big IF) they can fix it, I am going to try to sell it and go to Sears for another Kenmore (taking my wife with me).

PS: Did you see Maytag's address: One Dependibility Square. Now that's a joke! And remember the Maytag repairman who supposedly is the loneliest guy in town because nobody calls--he's not that lonely--it took more than a week to schedule an appointment.
