Fiberglass tubs are fairly easy to work on, but it is difficult to match the color and not have repair work show. The basic method is to grind and sand the area around the hole and use polyester resin, catalyst and fiberglass mat to make the repair. A lot like body work on a car. Final filling usually involves automotive putty and glaze, then the repair is sanded and spray painted with automotive type finish.

There are professionals who make repairs that blend much better than most of us can achieve DIY, just like with the car. Another option is to purchase a replacement tub. The cost is not necessarily higher to buy a replacement, but it is a lot more work to remove the old one, install new, and repair walls. I think this is the best repair option, but any of 3 options will work: DIY, professional repair and refinish, or replacement.
