Hey buddy, I hope you don't have the old leech pit type septic/sewer systems...sssshhhhhh, these are illegal most places now....we had those at our house that burned.

Every two years we had to do ours (with 4 children at the time). One year we had to replace all of the cinder blocks. The next year we decided to dig a new secondary/run off pit ~ can't think of what they call it right now. Once when I was pregnant, we had sewer problems, it ended up that a tree root broke the pipe for the toilet right under the edge of the house. It was such a mess.

We had two different pits also. One for the toilet and one for bath, sink, and laundry. These three have a lot of grease in them which will not allow the water to filter through the sand. It plugs it up. The toilet is always being used so it was on a seperate line.

I assume since you said "dig it up" that you have the type we had. I'm sorry if you do, it is a nasty nasty job. Especially in the warmer months.

Good luck.
AJ
