Hi All,
In the middle of a remodeling project which involved moving my kitchen to
the front of the house.
All the drain pipes for the old kitchen and bath are on the rear of the
house.
My contractors plumber had to run a new PVC vent pipe up into the attic and
did ask me if i minded if he went straight up through the roof on the front
of the house. I told him that was fine.
The other night a friend stopped by who happens to be a licensed master
plumber and took one look at the way the vent piping was run and was pretty
surprised to say the least.
The vent pipe ties into the drain pipe right at floor level under the sink,
and then goes directly through the floor and makes a 90 degree turn
immediately to begin the transition to the rear of the house.
The first thing is i was told is that the vent should have been placed above
the flood plane (bottom of sink) of the sink. Otherwise siphoning could
occur as well as the potential for backing up into the vent pipe without
knowing it was happening.
I have yet to approach my contractor on this and wanted to research things
some before doing so.
Has anyone here piped in a sink in a similar fashion putting the vent line
below the S trap?
If this is a total no no please let me know and ill make sure it gets done
right before the cabinets go in tomorrow.
Also if anyone has any pictures or drawings of how it should look or links
to a website that would be great.
Thanks
