Try washing the walls if you aren't going to paint. A good sponge, warm soapy water and some good friends... Turn it in to a party.
A good primer and paint will take care of some of the smoke, and you probably want to get any carpets cleaned by a professional. I hired to stanly steamer and they even guarantee the stain removal for 2 weeks.
