vinyl siding

I have a house that has cedar siding on it now and i would like to put vinyl siding over top of it. the steps that i was planning on doing are as follows,put a layer of 3/8 plastispan insulation,then put the insulated vinyl siding on top of that, the house is built with 2x4 walls and i would like a little more r-value to the house. i live in edmonton alberta canada were it gets cold in the winter. can some body tell me what are the proper steps of doing a job like this?
