I bought my maytag Performa washer and dryer 3 years ago. The dryer has worked fine. The washer... that's another story. Its only had a problem 2 times. The first problem was the belt driven transmission. With a sqeal/squeek and shudder, it quit working. Luckily I was still within the 1 year warranty and parts were covered. I also had a "home warranty" at the time which covered all of my home's major appliances, so I was reimbursed for the labor charges (~ $180.00). I thought this was gong to be the final problem and that I probably got a washer that just had a bum part. Well its been a year and a half and with a load squeek-squeek-squeek, it has died again. Same problem. It will wash and agitate, but the spin cycle wont work- it just drains the water straight down. THe repair man who came the first time said the belt driven transmissions weren't worth a crap and that was the main problem with the model. This time when it broke down, I went to the store and bought a kenmore washer. This one can be sold to a repair store for parts for all I care- or its going on the curb. 3 years and if I had fixed it, I would have put more than the purchase price into repairing it. My mother had a maytag that lasted 22 years, and I thought this one would too.
Hopefully my new kenmore will..
