Carpet Glue

Well, I guess the ladies are going to get a workout! It is not an easy task.
I had that problem in a warehouse (2500 sq ft). It was still somewhat soft and I had to use lacquer thinner to dissolve it. I think if I had waited, it would have hardened some and could have been scraped off with an 8" razor floor scraper. I learned since then that there are solvents especially for removing this adhesive, but I read that they are no more friendly than lacquer thinner, and lacquer thinner is cheap. I bought a couple boxes of painters rags and hired a helper; took us several days.
Question: do you really need to remove it? If you are going to put down carpet, it may not be necessary. Same for some other flooring types.
