At least not the little plug-in ones. We had one in the attic and a couple of other rooms and still had problems. We got a cat and never saw another mouse, dead or alive. I don't know if mice can sense them or what, but we had no more problems.
Another important thing is to try to locate holes where they may be getting in... though this is tough with a garage... nearly impossible I'd say. But my grandmother had problems with mice, only in her kitchen. On further investigation a few holes were located behind the cabinets where mice had turned tiny cracks into mouse-sized openings. I sealed those and she had no more mice problems.
