teflon paste

The best sealant for the pipe threads is a teflon paste. Its available at any hardware or home improvement store. Coat the outside threads making sure not to get any inside the pipe and you will have a good seal when you put it together. You didn't mention if you had a shutoff valve. It goes at the end of the hard pipe and is used to connect the flex line that connects to the dryer. Be sure to have one.
