If you have sewer flies, then you definately have organic matter in your drain. The flies lay their eggs in this organic matter and the flies fly up the drain into the house. If you don't remove the organic matter--the flies never leave. Use either a plumber's tool to remove the matter or a very strong drain cleaner to ensure removal of all of the matter.
