Sub-Floor For Ceramic Install

Posted by Sean Donaghey on July 6th, 2004 12:32 AM

I have currently a 5/8" plywood floor, and need to add a sub-floor for a ceramic install, and I just have a few questions.

What plywood thickness is needed for the new sub-floor? Some say 3/4", some 1/2"

What direction should the plywood be layed. Should it be opposite the original floor or same direction but staggered joints?

Should it screw into the joists or into the main floor? I will be screwing down the main floor with 2 1/2" floor screws.

And lastly, should I apply adhesive between the sheets?

Thanks,

Sean

Sorry the thinkness options should be 3/8" and 1/2".
