In reply to How much crushed rock do I need for driveway? by AndreaS on July 6th, 2004 09:02 AM [Go to top of thread]

27 cubic feet in a cubic yard, and 4-inches = 4/12 or 0.333 feet. So 200 x 0.33 / 27 = 2.46 yards. Get 2-1/2 yards. For a new droveway, I recommend a 6-inch "roadbase" crushed gravel. Specify roadbase which includes 3/4 crushed rock and fines that help bind the mix together to prevent roll-out (the ball-bearing effect of clean smooth gravel). This also builds up nicely rather than sinking into the soil. Increasing the quantity to 6-inches (which will compress to 4") gives you 200 x .5 / 27 = 3.7 yards.
