I would make sure I had the freeze paper and adequate flashing installed in the valley to make sure no more water seeps in. I also install tar paper over my valleys and then I shingle over them...but I'm anal about overprotection when it comes to roofing.
Also, make sure that is where the water is penetrating the roof. Water can travel quite a distance before it actually appears on a ceiling. Before you go ripping off the roof to patch it, make sure you know where the water is coming from. It could be along the gable end or anywhere else above or around the joint. Odds are it is the joint, but you could save yourself some major headaches with a little investigation.
