There are "NEW" wood fillers that are polyester based fillers same as the Bondo......There are also epoxy based fillers that are sometimes harder or "stick" better or smell less......
Perhaps their snicker concerns the expected lifetime of the repair.......or the quality of workmanship........Or your ability to try what they have not........
