Sand in dishwasher update!!! (finally) Posted by AJ-trucker's wife on July 13th, 2004 04:52 AM
A while back I posted about there being a tremendous amount of sand in my dishwasher. Whirlpool, Mod.FR0709871 Well, yesterday, I think I may have finally figured it out.
I believe that it is one of two things...in the door itself, besides the trap at the back on the bottom, is another. I popped it off and it was loaded with sand. It wasn't blocked in anyway, just lots of sant in it. Also, earlier in the day while installing foam wrap on the pipes I got to looking at the pump and water softener tank. The softener is still hooked up even tho it's not in use. On the inlet/outlet pipes is this "thing" you can push that says "push for soft water" on one side and the other side "push to by-pass". It was pushed in on the soft water side. I didn't think that was right, so I pushed the by-pass side in. After running dishwasher there wasn't any more sand.
Now, the softener may not have anything to do with the dishwasher, BUT, I don't have anymore condensation coming off it, which in it self is a blessing. I still have standing water around pump/tank but I took care of a third of that problem. Now to see if this takes care of the nasty smell in the washing machine!?!?!?!?
And by the way, ever since I posted about the fishy smell in the dishwasher, it hasn't happened again! So that one will remain a mystery for now. At least it's one less thing to worry about.
Thanks to you all for your help, support and advice. You're the greatest.
AJ
