Can anyone give me an idea of how many layers of shingles are too many? I live in upstate NY and have a house with 2 layers now. The existing shingles are curling a bit and are brittle. I plan to fix the apparent heat buildup problem with a ridge vent and soffit vents (imagine, excessive heat here, Arizona this ain't!) and would like to avoid a tearoff and re-roof. I also have a problem with rain running down the gable end of the roof and getting into the soffit around the drip edge. The shingles don't really overlap the drip edge by much, if at all. In some places the drip edge sticks out farther than the shingles. Quelle horreur! Any advice very much appreciated!
