Here is an answer, the only way to take the tile up is with a cold chisel, a hammer and alot of time(depending on the amount of tile to be removed) There will always be damage to the surface below unless it (the tile)is laid on concrete. I lay tile for a living, and charge a preety peeny to remove old tile. It is a SLOW time consuming process. Then u have to be sure the surface exposed is suitable for what ever finish you put on it. This is an even MORE time consuming process. As I advise all people with tile, make sure you want tile to begin with, make sure that if you want to remove the tile, you know what it will involve, make sure that if you do it yourself, that your ready for whatever may happen underneath the tile (alot of times more tile than what you plan needs to come down, and/or there is extensive drywall replacement to do afterwards) If I am called to finish a job that a home owner tried to do to save money, I generally charge more. Not because I am an ass, but its more hassle to come half way into the job and finish than to do it from the start. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
