I would like information on laying out stringers using a Carpenter's square/framing square. More specifically, how would I lay out a 71" long stringer to acheive a desired 10 1/2" run with a 6 1/2" rise and also obtain a 1/2" overhang on the respective steps? I laid out and cut an initial stringer, which was incorrect in total length....re-calculated using an 11" x 7" layout which works, but now does not afford the initial 1/2" overhang I want! Help! Please provide text on how to properly calculate / lay out using the square (especially when you are mathematically restricted in total lenght of stringer).
