Ceiling Fan Wiring Hampton Bay # 312453 Posted by Joe on July 21st, 2004 03:41 PM In reply to hooking u up by me on March 5th, 2004 06:12 PM [Go to top of thread]
I read many of the posts on this site and was unable to find an answer to my problem. Thanks in advance for anyone that is able to help.
Here goes... I recently purchased a Hampton Fan (Model 312453). I comes with a remote control. If I knew this prior to purchasing, I wouldn't have. My junction outlet-box on the ceiling has four wires coming out of it. 1-Black, 1-White, 1, Red, and 1-Green (Ground).
The remote unit has wires on both sides. Wires that connect to the outlet box and the ceiling fan itself. On the side that connects to the ceiling fan there are only 2 wires. 1-Black and 1-White. The ground is connected to the fan itself. On the side that connects to the fan and light-kit, there are three wires. 1-Black, 1-Blue and 1-White.
So far I'm ok. Here is the part I don't understand. When I connect blk to blk and white to white, nothing works. So I decided to open the light swich box. The light switches aren't using any white wires. They are using 1-Black and 1-Red. The ground wires aren't even being used. Is this a South Fla thing. Now I tried connecting the black and red, but when I do that, that fans starts to spin regardless of whether the switch is on or off.
Help.
Thanks,
Joe.
