I would like to reface my fireplace and hearth with granite tiles, and have had two contractors prepare estimates after evaluating the surfaces. One contractor is confident the 4" sq. ceramic tiles can be overlayed with granite tiles; and the other contractor maintains that existing tiles would need to be removed. There's a substantial difference in cost - which is the "better" method? Thanks.
