the symptoms you describe indicate that the safety sensors near the floor on each side of the door are either out of adjustment, or rarely, one of the units is bad. if theits are mis-aligned, the LED on the sensor will be blinking. also a spider web with a leaf or grass clippings in it can block the sensor
