As far as yellow jacket nests are concerned: I had one under the roof of my house. At our local hardware store I found a poison-free peppermint spray that sprays peppermint foam over a distance of 15 feet or so. With that I was able to stay close to a door and drench the whole nest with that foam. It worked really well, no survivors, nice scent.
About the Rescue Trap: I have one of those, too. Works great, too. The whole trap was full of dead wasps after only 10 days. However, I can't get rid of the impression that it attracts even more wasps because it is very effective.
