It depends on what you want to do. The ditch is there to drain water away from the houses. If you get excessive rain, the slope pushes a lot of water toward you, the neighbor's entire roof pitches toward you etc etc, you may not want to do too much.
Please describe the surronding area, the size of the ditch and what your desired rults will look like.
