WOOD PRESERVATIVE

COPPER CHROMEARSENIC OXIDE(CCA)

The preservative are a water-soluble mixture of chrome,copper,and arsenic oxides. The preservatives must be supplied ready-mixed in liquor form.

SPECIFICATION FOR CCA

i). The treatment solution shall be of a concentration of about (6%) mass of oxide per volume of the solution.
ii). The CCA preservative shall be in a form,which shall dissolvein water to give a solution containing the active elements copper,chromium,and arsenic in the proportion specified on table below.

iii). On dissovling in water and stirring,but keeping the soulution temperature below 400 C INSOLUBLE MATTER SHALL NOT EXCEED 0.5% OF THE PRESERVATIVE FORMULATION.

The desired formulation can be obtained from water-soluble compounds of copper oxide(CUO),Chromium Trioxide (Cr03),and Arsenic pentoxide (AS2O5).

Copper-Chrome-Arsenic Oxide preservative must conform tothe Kenya Standard specification for the preservative of timber KS 02-94(1985) or the British Standards BS 4072 TypeII(1974).

PACKAGING

The preservative liquor shall be packed in suitable disposable containers, such as plastic Kegs,in convenient quantities of 42Kg or 50Kg plastic bags.
