cope cut molding

you could watch ask this old house where this issue was aaddressed :o)

to cope the corner, install one piece into the corner. hold the second piece in place with the end butting to the installed piece. use a compass to scribe the contour of the installed piece on the end of the other. now use a coping saw to cut along the scribed line, cutting with a slight bevel toward the rear of the molding. With luck you will get a good fit on the first attempt.
