Vapor barrier question

I am in the process of renovating my home. I will be replacing my windows soon and was hit with a problem I cannot find an answer to. I will be resizing or moving some of my windows and taking one completely out. My question is, I have a vapor barrier in between the drywall and studs, What would be the best way to cover the new hole with vapor barrier. The problem I see is that where ever I cut the drywall, I will be cutting the vapor barrier. The only way I see to do it would be to cut the drywall down the center of the stud and attach vapor barrier to the studs along the side and try to tape it to the existing barrier under the drywall at the top and bottom, but i'm not sure.
