help with grade slope fix Posted by harperwi on September 1st, 2004 02:23 PM
I'm 2 weeks from owning my 1st home, and the inspector said I should adjust the grade slope on at least 2 sides of the house right away, as the slope runs downhill toward the foundation. I have a general idea of what needs to be done to reverse the slope, but I need to dig some window wells at the same time, or the increased dirt will partially bury my basement windows. I was looking for articles with tips or how-to's on this subject, but nothing came up.
I'm specifically concerned about how deep to dig the well, how to prevent the well from filling up with water and creating new leaks into the basement. I'm also not sure on how much dirt I'll need. I believe the inspector said 5" of rise for every three feet. Does that sound right?
In addition to my specfic concerns, I welcome any tips or advice on the subject too.
Thanks!
