False Tray Ceiling?

I have heard about this technique, and want to use it in my kitchen -- it seems pretty simple: moulding and paint to fool the eye into thinking the ceiling goes UP in the middle of the tray. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding explicit instructions for it. HELP!!
What sort of moulding? light paint inside or out? shadows in the corners or along outer edges???
