What kind of "noise"? Humming, grinding, etc.?
Where was the sound coming from? The top console, the bottom part of the dryer?
It may be that something is hampering the motor's movement. Did you check to see if maybe something has gotten into the dryer's blower fan and is jamming it? Can the motor be turned by hand?
