A dishwasher will usually fill with water, splash it around getting the detergent wet, splash the detergent/water around, drain, fill for the rinse and then drain. If those drains are working, dirty water will remain in the dishwasher.

Now, if it is draining but the water just can't go anywhere or the water goes into the drain hose but instead or going into the house drain comes back into the machine, again you have dirty water in the dishwasher even through the machine is pumping it out.

** I checked the drain line where it enters the sink drain and found no blockage. **

Did you try unhooking the hose and putting it into a sink or pail to see if water is able to drain through it? Sometimes blockages can be intermittent any only show up when under pressure of a drain.

JFYI
