Chirping smoke detectors

They may be hard wired but they also should have a battery backup. The chirping is the signal that one (or more) batteries are failing. Usually a 9 volt battery. Replace them all. And do it every 6 months. Take the cover off or remove the battery cover, (depending on the model) and look.
