Hi Diane, sometimes these are very hard to remove. I would look at it carefully and see how the tabs work, where they can move, where the space is around them. There should be space to "retract" them as to remove the battery. Worse case scenario, remove the whole unit and have a go at it. Just remember to replace it right away.
