Epoxy for knot sealing

Posted by GBTurrell on September 18th, 2004 07:50 PM

I have been using WEST system epoxy adhesive for ten years or so to seal knots in white pine siding, both inside and out. I use the Abatron also, but have had inconsistent results with that product's drying. The West system leaves a lump, as you need a good coat build up. The thickness is necessary since the glue needs to be scuff sanded to retain primer. It does work, and in my experience, nothing else does, at least with white pine.I think you need the consistency of glue, not saturant.
