I had to break the "door" over the battery to get the battery out. I had pulled the circuit breaker to shut off the electricity and then took out the battery. Imagine my dismay when the detector continued to chirp with no battery and no electricity! It finally stopped. Thanks for help. I am so glad to be rid of that noise.
